Jason Switzer is a Senior Advisor with the Pembina Institute, which he joined in April 2011, after nearly a decade in international development and in corporate environmental management with positions including environmental excellence advisor at Cenovus Energy Inc. and senior greenhouse-gas engineer at Shell Canada Oil Sands. His areas of expertise are in business–ENGO partnering, environmental labels, management systems and certification/assurance, carbon management, reporting and strategy, offset design and deal-making, consensus building process design and facilitation, and conflict sensitive resource development. In his previous role at the Pembina Institute, he co-led the national consulting team, through which he managed multi-stakeholder processes for clients including Shell, TOTAL, Suncor, the shale gas sector, and the Canadian Hydropower Association. Jason holds master's degrees in environmental engineering and in public policy from MIT and is a Harvard-trained.



David Poritz whose work is the focus of Oil & Water is President and Co-Founder of Equitable Origin, a stakeholder-based social and environmental standards and certification system for the energy industry. David’s interest in the impacts of oil development on the environment and Indigenous Peoples of the Amazon rain forest began at the age of 12, and led him to make dozens of trips to the region in the following 13 years. His experiences there as a human rights advocate and socially-positive entrepreneur led him to found Equitable Origin in 2009, the world’s first organization dedicated to the certification of responsibly-developed energy. David was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University and holds an undergraduate degree from Brown University where he was a Harry S. Truman Scholar.
