Calgary Justice Film Festival is pleased to announce a return of its justReel events with the

Alberta premiere of National Film Board’s, UNARCHIVED.

On Friday, April 14, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. the Calgary Justice Film Festival (CJFF) hosts justREEL with the screening of the National Film Board’s Unarchived. This event will be held in the Patricia A. Whelan Performance Hall at the Calgary Central Public Library, 800-3 Street SE. The screening is free and open to the public.

This documentary film examines the community archives across British Columbia whereby local knowledge keepers of otherwise overlooked communities aim for a more inclusive history. Through a collage of personal interviews, archival footage and deeply rooted memories, the past, present and future come together, where everyone is seen and everyone belongs. History is what we make of it. A post-film discussion will be led by Regina Landwehr, retired professional archivist and manager with the University of Calgary.

In his recent review of the film, Manmitha Deepthi, with University of Victoria’s The Martlett, described the film as a “crash course to an inclusive history in British Columbia.” Bassem Hafez, CJFF chairperson, expanded on that comment, indicating the film serves to remind viewers of what has been omitted from the annals of Canadian history.
